For all of us nature is the world we live in and depend on. For thousands of years nature has been an object of fear and domination. But at the same time human beings were aware of its beauty and its own rights as a subject that demands respect. Writing about nature and the relationship between human beings and nature meant observation as well as conveying the pleasure of its beauties and the terror of its sometimes overwhelming force. Nowadays, writing about nature also means writing about destruction, disappearance, loss. In this course we will have a look at some texts that focus on these aspects which will help us to discuss our own personal relationship with nature. |
